Pileated Surprise
May 21st, 2022
We were walking along a boardwalk within the forest when we saw a lady looking off to the right. She was holding her binoculars to her eyes and looking intently at something. I suspected she was looking at something special and I didn’t want to disturb the animal so I slowed down and proceeded slowly forward.
When I came up on the lady, there was a Pileated Woodbecker on a branch and very close by. I was happy that I didn’t disturb the bird. The bird was finding and eating bugs on an old log. I was able to get several images while the bird moved around the log finding food.
Normally I have a short time to photograph a bird before they disappear or move on to another location. This bird was the unusual kind that gave me lots of time to get different shots. The resulting images are a wonderful memory from this spring
