Yellowstone last day
October 18th, 2024
Last night put between 1-3 inches of snow on the ground in the upper areas of Yellowstone. The morning provided mists of cold and signs of snow everywhere. Down in Gardiner, we had a lot of wind and rain. The cabin had a lot of sounds to share of about the wind and rain most of the night. Fortunately the furnace and roof kept us warm. We had no further issues other than sounds.
The roads in Yellowstone were sanded but still slippery. Marcia had to use the four wheel drive on the way out to steady the truck. We also had to drive 25 miles an hour most of the way out. No ill effects since there were not a lot of people out today in Yellowstone. A mere fraction of the people we have been seeing all week.
We came upon deer in the snow. There was no pull out so I had to use the 100-500 out the car window. Our time with them was brief until we sighted someone coming towards us and moved on.
We saw bison several times in the park. Most were far away in sheltered areas along our way. They were all mostly in bad light or too far away. Then the clouds started to briefly clear and we got a few of a small number of bison in better light.
The snow was everywhere. I saw a stump of tree in one location on our way and took a few pictures. I like the contrast between the wood and snow.
