Very low light

February 19th, 2023

I had some time this morning, but heavy cloud cover gave me pause. Its hard to shoot in low light situations like this and I often don’t go for that reason. I am glad I went because I was able to see some things I don’t always see. The birds were much closer to my shooting positions requiring hardly any crop at all if any.

Almost all my shots were taken pushing the limits of the low light capabilities of the the Canon R5 at 128,000 ISO. In the case of the ducks, I was shooting at 1/320 of the second which makes it hard to freeze the subject. I had seen a video where the speaker suggested taking a large number of images of the subject in this kind of situation, hoping for one that is sharp. My results were pretty good for the ducks.

I was surprised by new noises coming from the reed area near my shooting position. I kept wondering what it was. All the sudden, two raccoons started fighting just outside the cover. I got several shots of them.
