Pied-billed Grebe Closeup
September 19th, 2022
I often see pied-billed grebes in a nearby wildlife area. They are small and very shy birds and often stay frustratingly just barely out of range for my camera gear. I can often get shots that are useable but never full frame until now.
On this day, the water was extremely low and the food was very close by. This brought the birds closer including a young pied-billed grebe. He was very intent upon searching under the Lilly pads for food. He was often not disappointed and neither was I.
The resulting images were fun and surprising. I got down on as low as I could which enabled me to capture this bird with wonderful light in the eyes. You can now see the complexity of the eyes with wonderful facets.
