La Conner Car and Boat Show

Our days don’t always go the way we plan. You look forward to a coming moment and have images in your head of that that experience will look like. Perhaps you study things like I do and think about precisely how you will make a memory of something. In my case the right depth of field affects how I look at something later. You dream about upcoming moments and then you are there.
Today it started drizzly and got increasingly rainy with pauses. The cars and boats at the show in nearby La Conner were covered with rain droplets. Their owners huddled in chairs under portable awnings that are so helpful when we have hot sun or in this case for keeping out of the rain.
All the owners were cheerful and happy, sharing their love of their cars and listening to the stories of different owners. No sullen looks in spite of the obvious time they all put into their cars, evident in the drops appearing on their beloved cars and boats. They all made the best of it. In the one case the man used a large umbrella and waited for the rain to abate. That was what gave me the idea to capture the patterns. So often we see these treasured items gleaming in the sun from many hours of work to keep them that way. If you have every tried to keep water spots off your car you know what I mean about how hard that is.
The result is the patterns of water and lines and shapes combined shared here. I love how the cars elements came together to make these images. There were infinite patterns and lines to capture and I had a blast making these abstracts.
Next time your day doesn’t go quite the way you want, look for a way to find something that usually isn’t there.
