Iverson Spit

October 27th, 2024

A troubling morning where weather.com told me we would have a clear morning. I checked the website to see if it was going to be a good morning and looked ok. I packed up my equipment and set out. There was light rain but I figured that that the rain would go away. I was wrong. The light rain was still going when I arrived at Iverson Spit.

I paused for a few minutes and pondered what to do. The light rain won’t bother the weather sealing on the R5 mark II and Canon 600mm F4. I realized I forgot the cover for the hot shot on y camera but had been told by Jeff Cable that it was not a problem, so I decided to go out anymore.

For the first 40 minutes of my walk, I took no pictures. The light was really low and the birds were not in interesting positions. I kept feeling the light rain on my hands and occasionally on my face but decided to keep going as the light continue to gradually increase.

When the light did get better in spite of the rain, I was rewarded by the sight of a black capped chickadee on a branch. The bird was moving a bit to get at some tree fruit. As I took photographs, the bird retrieved and consumed that fruit. Was the first shots that I kept from the day and I was glad that the light cooperated for me to take it.

The later birds I took were taken in brief pauses as they flitted around the bushed along the trail. Most of the time they took off as soon as I lifted my lens to get them in the view finder. Sometimes I could not find the focus on the bird because of intervening branches. Occasionally the bird was pause and the ones you see are the ones that did.

One comment about formatting. You may notice some difference in the end of the branch in the first two pictures. This taken in the same spot but there was an unappealing out of focus branch in the lower right hand corner. I decided to use the cloning tool to remove it. Thus the difference in the images. I pondered not posted more than one but decided to do it any way. Fits my aesthetic and what I want to do with my art. I am grateful that Adobe allows me to fix things like this.
