Curls in Arboretum
November 22nd, 2022
I went out into the Arboretum in Seattle with Curls to capture some fall themed pictures. We were into early November so some of the fall color was no longer there but you go when you can go. It was also pretty cold so we needed to work quickly that morning. I had several settings in mind including the lighted bridge, fountain and the Japanese Garden style area.
We arrived before sunrise and were rewarded with the lights still being on the the bridge. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the lights offered plenty of illumination to show off the details on Curls. We did server kind of different poses and areas on the bridge. I used my 85 f1.2 to get a useable 1/125 shutter speed in the low light.
After the lights when out on the bridge, we experimented with leaves in the air and the newly illuminated are was gorgeous for that. We had another lady with us and the ladies took turns throwing leaves up so the other could reach out for them. I used a very shallow depth of field with the 1.2 aperture both because of the low light as well as to blur the background.
I had seen the fountain in the park many times but hadn’t had a chance to get a good shot with it. Curls and I had fun taking pictures with both the fountain as well as the water featured in the shots. For this I used my 85 f1.2 and added just a touch of supplemental lighting using my Profoto A2 with the clic octabox.
The final area was a beautiful log with yellow leaves in the background setting. For this is used f2.8 aperture to get more of her in focus. I really enjoyed catering her outfit against the colorful leaves.
