Christmas 2024

December 24th, 2024

It is Christmas Eve 2024. It has been a challenging year with the move to Stanwood after living in the same house for 24 years. A myriad of details to figure out surrounding the idea of how to organize things so they feel like home. As of now the house is pretty well organized after several declutter endeavors.

I decided to do some studio work with a number of items with the theme of Christmas. Marcia made cherry pie and vegan cookies so those were a logical thing to add photographs. The hard part was organizing them in the frame in an aesthetic way which I still have challenges with.

I am still having challenges finding equipment in my studio. Today was no different. This time it was the camera L bracket that allows me to put the camera on a tripod and do some changes to the composition. Frustrating but ultimately we made it work.

The composition was setup as follows. I used a black V-Flat as background with Christmas lights hanging off a bar in the background. The shooting platform was a table with a Christmas themed placemat. I placed a Profoto A2 to the right front at power 7.0. Another A2 is to the left behind a translucent reflector set to 6.5. These shots were taken with Canon R5 Mk II and 50mm F1.2 lens set to f4 1/250. I tried using a shallower depth of field at 1.2 and then 2.8, but then the background elements didn’t work as well.

Merry Christmas
