Semiahmoo Spit

January 26th, 2025

An even colder morning today than yesterday. The frost was everywhere on the ocean shore. The cold seeped through my pants when I sat down to take pictures and the rocks were especially sharp against my knees and fingers when I got up and down.

On the other hand this kind of weather brings many benefits. The water was less wavy in many spots. As the sun got closer to the edge of the hill behind me, a warm glow started and the birds ventured closer several times.

White winged Scoter

The black version of these birds are the males and the females are the warm toned ones that started getting closer as the sun gave me a warm glow you see here.

Surf Scoter

These birds have been here every time I visit. You start to think wow more surf scoters. Cannot I just get something else. But patience will bring you a moment where you manage to capture one bringing food off the bottom.

Bald Eagle

Towards the end of my visit a bald eagle flew over and scattered the flocks of birds in the water. I only had a few seconds to capture these pictures.
