Bison and Pronghorn

October 13th, 2024

This was our first day in Yellowstone. We spent the day exploring the Lamar Valley. This is the northern part of the park which offers the best opportunities for wildlife pictures. A myriad of hills, trees, and rivers. We started are day at 7am which was too late to catch sunrise but animals everywhere.

The Pronghorn were right at the entrance of the park in the rolling hills after leaving Gardiner. The meandered about with little concern that we were there. Just feeding and moving on to the next nearby clump.

The bison were distributed throughout the Lamar Valley. The challenge is not finding them but getting on the light side of them and avoiding getting too close. These animals ignore you until you get too close. So I kept moving back and sought different locations and different herds when they started getting close.
