Photos on a Rainy Day

March 31st, 2022

Many people think that rainy days are bad for photography. I will admit it presents challenges. The light is less optimal requiring higher ISOs and lower shutter speeds. Changing lenses is a challenge because I do not want to get water into my lens mount so I seldom do that.

My camera and lenses are weather resistant but they are not weather proof. I carry a rain cloth with me in case of steady rain. For light rain, there is less to worry about. A few drops of water don’t worry me other than keeping the rain off my lenses.

With all this said, I get images that surprise me when I go out in rainy conditions. There are often pauses in the rain that bring out beautiful light. The brief moments of break in the clouds create beautiful moments to capture.

And then there are rainbows. On this particular day the colors were very intense. I did not see a good place to get the full rainbow. I also had my 100-500 lens on which wouldn’t allow me to show the entire rainbow. However the resulting images were worth it. I love how I was able to capture the full spectrum of colors in the resulting images
