Focus Technique
December 27th, 2021
I spent some time experimenting with different focus techniques today. My subject was birds in my yard landing on the apple trees and then traveling to the bird feeders. The snow has brought them to our yard for several days in much larger numbers. There was also the additional help of partially clear skies for the first time in a while.
The first change was using the 1st Curtain Shutter for the R5. I noticed that a lot of times the second shot was a bit less in focus than the first. This partially fixed the problem but still had the camera appearing to try and find focus again each time when the bird was still.
The second change was IS Mode 1. I was on IS mode 3 because I often use birds in flight and in the water as my subjects. The birds in my trees are different and I kept having the focus drift issue. Changing to IS Mode 1 instead of 3 was a big help.
