Fir Island
November 14th, 2024
We have had a lot of days of wind and rain this week. Rained so hard several times during this week that you could feeling in the walls and see it in the droplets on the screens in the windows. Frustrating because there is no way to get out in this kind of weather.
This afternoon there was a minor break in the weather after work. I decided to take advantage of it by going to Fir Island and see what I could see. There was a 50% chance of rain but you never know unless you try. I was not disappointed.
The first thing that happened was that I was greeted by a bunny rabbit right near my car so I had to take a picture of him He just kept posing for me while I got my camera out. A nice surprise.
The tide was high meaning that much of the open field was flooded with water. The weather and the cold must have kept most people away which meant I had the place almost to myself. The result being that the northern harriers were forced to venture closer to the unflooded areas nearer to me. At one point he flew right past me and I was able to get the best pictures I have ever gotten on a northern harrier.
