Drive, Sniffage, and Photos
September 28th, 2025
Took a drive on Route 20 in the northwest of Washington state. This is a two lane road that meanders through the Cascade Mountains. The are lakes, dams, rivers, trees, and animals all over the area. Lots of opportunities for hiking and photography. Unfortunately only open 3 seasons out of the year. The area is definitely at its best in fall when the trees are starting to change.
I like to drive my corvette into the mountains. Lots of opportunities to pass people (morons) who cannot keep to the speed limit. It is a challenge with the twisty turn road, but there are many opportunities to get out of the way which people seldom take advantage of. Thus the need to pass them. At irregular intervals you are clear to go and pass the cars in front of you. Requires a dotted line and clear space in the other lane. Exciting and fun.
Unfortunately our dog Ari seems to have trouble with sudden accelerations. Each time he would try to climb into my lap or my wifes. In a small car not really a great idea. He is simply too big. I need to keep my concentration. In the end I needed to stop passing people. May have to leave him behind next time.
We hiked around the area of Newhalem and explored the woods near the town. Nice level paths through the woods. Lots of abstract ideas to take advantage of. Ari got lots of opportunities to enjoy sniffing the area and charming people. A good morning was had by all except for the driving issues I mentioned.
