Cape Disappointment

This is fast becoming a popular place to photograph. This area is located on the border between Oregon and Washington State. During the winter there are so called King Tides when the waves, winds, and tides combine to create massive waves. I have seen waves so large that they dwarf the lighthouse on the bluff on the other side of the beach. These days have become crowded however.

I have found that the best pictures are not necessarily on the days when those elements all combine together. My very best pictures have come from a partly cloudy day combined with high tide where the light shines behind the waves. The resulting colors are spectacular and well worth the trip.
